The prompt I’ve been using for is pretty simple: `I want you to do autoresearch to improve {verifiable metric(s)}. Hill climb. You have a budget of ${budget} and {time limit}. Use sub-devins to parallelize work. Track your plans and progress as you go in the filesystem. Work methodically. Create abstractions if you need to to help you verify faster. Manage your own PRs/babysit code review and merge as you see fit until you get a candidate that passes gates you set. Boil the ocean. Believe in yourself. You got this. {+more confidence/hype statements}` After you have the setup you like, just make this into a skill and turn on automatic code review. With this prompt, Devin can run for hours autonomously. Funny enough, the “boil the ocean” and hype statements seem to yield better exploration behavior and make most models less likely to give up early or reward hack changes/ship incremental fallback stuff. Inspiration for this was @jarredsumner’s prompts during his Riemann work.view source ↗

I am surprised that people are surprised this is how I prompt Claude. Talk to Claude the way you would a coworker. There's no secret to prompting. There's no need to be overly scaffolded or prescriptive for most tasks -- give Claude a goal, and it will figure it out. There's no need to be overly scaffolded or prescriptive for most tasks -- give Claude a goal, and it will figure it out. Back in the Sonnet 3.5 days, your prompt mattered a lot. Nowadays, it's much more important to communicate to the model: 1. What you want it to do 2. How much effort you want it to spend 3. How it should verify that it did the right thingview source ↗

If you have a bunch of accounts and don't log into the web app very often other than to swap accounts in Claude Code, it's easy to miss this. You need to connect it to your GitHub account, which is very quick and easy if you're already logged into GitHub in the same browser. Then you just start a session, pick one of your repos, and give it a prompt to claim the credit. If you're like me and don't even want to have to think much about this but want to make sure you get reasonably good utility out of your $250 credits, you can try this generic prompt that I've been using, shown below (adapted from a similar prompt I use with GPT Pro in the web app with the GitHub connector). You can adapt it accordingly if you don't use beads or have a comprehensive plan document in the repo: (also, another PSA: they gave everyone one banked reset per account that expires Oct 22 if you don't click the button in the "Usage" section in settings in the web app. But wait until you actually hit your weekly limit before clicking it, then do it right after that. Don't waste this potentially valuable reset!). --- I have this now… can you work on it for me? Read the comprehensive plan and look at the beads first. Figure out the most momentous and critically important remaining gaps in features and functionality and focus on getting as much done of those things as possible in this session—not on minutiae or process/ceremony related tasks!! Use GitHub to commit your changes directly to main (no PRs!!!!). Commit relatively frequently: don’t wait to do one big commit at the end, it’s too risky. But don’t commit absolutely trivial, tiny changes separately: wait until you have a meaningful commit. And just keep going, being as useful as possible. Again, don’t focus on minutiae, focus on implementing the most critically important parts of the system that areview source ↗

Then, when film started to move from analog film to digital, I became more interested in that aspect of it. The visual-effects workflow for many years has included machine learning, so I can write pretty shitty Python scripts and stuff like that. “With convolutional neural networks, which were the precursors to what the transformer can do, which is much more computation simultaneously, you would do things like look at what’s called a tensor. That’s the numerical translation of a visual image in numbers, like the batch number, the frame number and the red, green and blue values of each pixel in each frame. It’s just that simple. That numeric is called a tensor. “You’d use a convolutional neural network to identify patterns that reveal what’s called edge detection or feature extraction, which is identifying patterns well enough to know, this is where the window ledge is, so we can more easily take the green-screen image out and replace it with something. “That was familiar to me early on because, prior to Artists Equity, I had a small visual-effects company. I’ve worked with GPUs a lot too. The visual-effects guys said, ‘Hey, you should see. There are a couple: Google and this other company, OpenAI, are doing really interesting stuff with transformers in video.’ “I’ve learned that I can actually just call up and go, ‘Hey, it’s Ben Affleck. Can I come see what you’re doing?’ Sometimes people say yes, to my astonishment.”view source ↗
