Great to host @gautam_adani, @jeet_adani1 from @AdaniOnline at @Uber. We’re partnered at 7 Adani airports, incl Navi Mumbai, that handle a quarter of India's air traffic. We talked about what’s next: AI, AVs + an even better airport experience for travelers across India, one of the world’s most exciting markets. Fo… Autocompaction is effectively Artificial Alzheimer, and it may work in your agent's favor or against it. The way it works is simple. It runs a prompt like "summarize this conversation and keep only what's essential" at a specific context utilization threshold and then injects the response into a compacted context. Forgetting irrelevant context helps, but it can also drop important context or nuance, so after autocompaction you're dealing with an AI agent who has just suffered memory loss while trying to continue work from looking at some fragmented notes. You can customize the compaction prompt and add instructions about what summaries must retain, but it won't solve the fundamental issue that this is a lossy operation. What I've seen working well is to ask the agent to persist important information about the current work in a scratchpad stored in a persistent file outside the conversation context, which survives compaction. After compaction, the agent can then reread it and recover important things like decisions, requirements, progress, issues, next steps, etc. To make this work though, you must make sure the agent discovers and reads it post compaction. One way to do that is to write an explicit instruction in your project's CLAUDE.md, like: > Read tmp/scratchpad.md at the start of every session and after context compaction. Treat it as the source of truth for current progress, decisions, and next steps. But this is not reliable because the agent might not recognize the compaction as such or might simply miss applying the rule. Also, you will want to have one scratchpad per session! So a more reliable approach is to use a deterministic `SessionStart` hook with the `compact|resume` matcher, which fires automatically after compaction or session resumption. This can be done in .claude/settings.json, like this: ``` { "hooks": { "SessionStart": [ { "matcher": "compact|resume", "hooks": [ { "type": "command"view source ↗

before I joined Anthropic, I spent about 2 weeks hacking on this as a side project with Opus 4. It’s interesting that no one has built an all-in-one tool for personal agents (like @Muse, @instinct, @bot, @interaction) that hold all connections to third party companies. Convinced that this should be an independent product. Convinced that this should be an independent product. That way you can keep auth separate, audit what the agent does, set fine-grained permissions and easily switch between the agent apps. I built it over the last few days with @hkonsti_. It’s open source and easy to self-host. Now my Instinct has exactly the same tools as Claude Code on my laptop.view source ↗

It's incredible to watch a new kind of economy be born. Agents purchasing infrastructure products and services. We've been shocked by how often they buy from our marketplace via our CLI already. We're now extending this to domains. Agents can now go full stack, from idea to online business, with a banger domain name 😁 It's incredible to watch a new kind of economy be born. I finally figured out what happened, so this might help anyone going through something similar. It turns out that session was orchestrating subagents for a larger project. But that shouldn't be a problem. It had at most 5-7 subagents running in parallel, using Opus 5.5 high/medium and Sonnet 5.5 xhigh/high. That didn't explain the high usage. The problem is that the cache lifetime for subagents is 5 minutes, compared with 1 hour for the main agent. Whenever those subagents sat idle waiting for the orchestrator's next instruction, the next input would cost 25x more and include the entire conversation history. That could be up to 1M tokens, and it was often 500k+. I stopped the session. I'll have to find a different workflow to keep working on it.view source ↗
