I’ve failed many times. SaaSs that nobody bought. Websites nobody visited. Products I was sure would change everything that changed absolutely nothing. I’ve burned weeks on ideas that died in silence. Watched my “big vision” get zero users. But every failure taught me something the wins never could. Keep going. I’ve failed many times. The individual that planted the device was Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, a Saudi national and engineer on the product team who joined OpenAI in July 2025. Key allegations from the complaint (N.D. Cal.): • On or about Sept. 30, OpenAI’s technical surveillance team found a surreptitious audio recording device plugged into a USB port on the back of a TV in an executive conference room. It was concealed in toilet paper, installed around Sept. 28, and its contents were encrypted. • The room is used for highly confidential technical, commercial, and strategic discussions. Alfozan had no authority to access it or attend meetings there. CCTV showed him near the room on multiple dates beforehand. • On Oct. 5 he entered the room and appeared to look behind the TV. That same day he left an unattended bag in another room containing his wallet, ID, and a second similar recording device. • Before installation, he queried internal tools about building addresses, meeting rooms, room capacities, calendars, and locations of leadership and external partner meetings. • A chatbot account tied to his spouse (sharing multiple identifiers with his own) submitted prompts between Sept. 24–30 about building a continuous audio recorder, encrypting the SD card, concealing the device, adding Wi-Fi/remote access, and the specific device’s MAC address. He’s been charged with using or attempting to use a device to intercept oral communications (18 U.S.C. § 2511). If convicted: up to 5 years, $250,000 fine, and 3 years supervised release. Arrested Oct. 9, initial appearance Oct. 13, remains in custody. Detention hearing set for Oct. 19. OpenAI says it used its models to help identify him, coordinated the termination with the FBI (access was progressively restricted beforehand), and has no indications of model-weight, source-code, or customer-data exfiltration. Tom had zero coding experience. His brother and a friend helped him hack together an MVP in Feb last year. On paper it was a terrible idea - he hired a lead designer, a head dev, and a front-end dev before he had a single customer. He funded the whole thing with the leftover cash from a marketing agency he’d been running for 10 years. Then instead of TikTok, UGC, or building in public… he went door to door with an iPad. He didn’t skip a single business. Music studios, repair shops, electricians - he’d walk in, show the widget on an iPad in their branding, and hand them a printed brochure. Trades kept saying yes because they’re direct, no-bullshit, and they only pay for stuff that pays for itself. That’s how he got his first 10 customers. Now Avenue is embedded on client sites AND inside Google’s “Book Online” button through a direct Google partnership. His one piece of advice: sell before you build. If someone will hand over cash before the product exists, you’ve found something worth pursuing.view source ↗

Ashton Kutcher and his partner invested $500,000 in the company. By 2016, that stake was worth roughly $50 million, according to Forbes. In the video below, Kunis tells Stephen Colbert why she tried to talk her future husband out of investments like these. Her family left Soviet Ukraine in 1991, when she was seven. In Los Angeles, her father, a trained engineer, worked as a cab driver. Kutcher described Uber as a cab company where anyone could drive. He offered to order her a ride so she could try it. "You're going to put me in a car with a stranger? What is wrong with you?" Then he told her about Bitcoin. She asked, "Is it FDIC insured?". Kutcher replied: "No. That's the point. It's not." "I think this is a horrible idea," she recalled telling him. His response: "Cool, we're investing it." At the beginning of 2013, Bitcoin traded below $100. During the week of her interview in April 2021, it traded above $50,000. Kunis says she now books accommodation through Airbnb and takes Uber everywhere. "I've never been happier to be wrong."view source ↗

After a short interrogation, DEA agents told him he wasn't a suspect and would be released soon. Then they put him in a small holding cell to wait. And they forgot about him. For five agonizing days, Chong sat handcuffed in a windowless cell with no food, no water and no toilet. When he realized no one was coming to release him, he began shouting and kicking the door. To survive, he drank his own urine. Soon he began to hallucinate, and for the last two days, he sat in complete darkness. When agents finally opened the door, they found him severely dehydrated, with his kidneys failing. He had lost 15 pounds. The DEA apologized, and a year later, the government paid him $4.1 million. Before they found him, convinced he was going to die, he had broken his glasses and used a shard to carve two words into his arm: "Sorry Mom."view source ↗

I think shipping code is getting easier. Figuring out what broke in production? Not so much 😅 I like the idea behind Sazabi: instead of setting up endless alerts, it watches your logs, spots issues, and helps figure out what went wrong. Pretty interesting direction for the AI coding era. I think shipping code is getting easier. Figuring out what broke in production? Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings 2. Companies exploring strategic alternatives or asset sales 3. Business closures and wind-down announcements 4. Mass layoffs and WARN notices 5. Debt restructuring and creditor negotiations 6. Going-concern warnings in SEC filings 7. Companies selling divisions or closing locations 8. Private equity portfolio companies experiencing distress 9. Failed fundraising and capital shortfalls 10. Receiverships and insolvency proceedings Where to find these companies: 1. PACER - public bankruptcy filings. 2. SEC EDGAR - financial distress disclosures. 3. WARN databases - companies announcing mass layoffs. 4.
