It’s called Motul Petit Le Mans. Tomorrow is the season finale, where 54 cars across multiple classes run roughly 400 laps of the 2.54-mile road. The race doesn’t end till 10 pm. They’ll be driving an LMP2: + 603 horsepower + 2,050 pounds + 9,000 rpm I’ve personally experienced some of the above things: > core body temp of 102°F > 3 g force in my airplane > non evaporative clothing > stomping 200 lbs > severe dehydration But never all at once… inside a race car for 2.5 hours straight, competing for tenths of a second, and in a high risk environment. I’m struggling to get my head around it. Last week, Tobi and I were at a conference catching up. He and I have been friends for 15 years. Tobi and DHH were my first customers at my payments startup Braintree. I’ll forever be grateful to them and DHH’s co-founder @jasonfried for giving my company life. Tobi approaches racing as I do my body. Data, method and analysis. A closed loop game of continuous improvement. Off the track, Tobi: + founder and ceo of Shopify + 6 million+ merchants + $195 billion market cap + 20 yrs building Off the track, DHH: + created Ruby on Rails + co-founder 37signals + 20 yrs building + profitable, no outside capital + 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner On the track, Mathias Beche: + 24 Hours of Le Mans podium finisher + European Le Mans Series LMP2 + FIA Endurance Championship winner + 15+ career prototype victories What a team of bad asses. I’m excited to be in the pit on tomorrow and watch all of this go down.view source ↗

I’m flying on @AmericanAir and after paying extra money to upgrade my seat, I got stuck next to a man who is 300+ pounds and stripped mid flight. None of the flight attendants wanted to confront him. He smells like 💩 and weed. He’s literally sitting in my seat and keeps touching me. For context, he’s literally 300+ pounds and I’m 120. Why does American Airlines think it’s acceptable to treat people this way?! I tried reaching out discreetly during the flight, but they have no avenues to do that.view source ↗

We should be careful (and probably disallow release) of models on par with current open source Astra/Opus level models. AI is now reverse engineering games from binaries and remaking them. Reverse engineering games is a very hard problem. If this is possible then reverse engineering banking software, ID systems (Aadhaar), flights, etc is possible too. A game ships its binary to every player. Bank and Aadhaar backends are protected by servers, but it's unlikely the security teams at these are smarter than advanced AI that can do this to games. We are protected rn because a Claude will refuse to tick "I'm not a robot" on websites. When OSS models don't respect that, we have a looming cybersecurity problem. Apologies I didn't see this earlier.view source ↗

The more people who can access AI, the better society can navigate the changes it will bring. And yet, the gap between AI’s capabilities and everyday usage continues to grow. At the frontier, it's solving millennium prize problems and making biological breakthroughs. Outside San Francisco, it's something someone might have used once in 2023 to make a recipe, and never looked back. I believe closing this gap is especially important for the nonprofits and government agencies tackling society’s most pressing problems, many of which have limited technical resources. Beyond excited to work closely with these groups to figure out how AGI can serve them!view source ↗

He tried to “distill just a little bit” from OpenAI while building his own local AI model. OpenAI banned him. He appealed. They unbanned him. He tried again. BANNED AGAIN 😭 Now here’s where this gets interesting... PewDiePie is building Ajax, a small local AI model for his open-source Odysseus project. He needed better training data, so he experimented with using outputs from OpenAI as part of that process. And honestly, I’m conflicted. AI companies have trained models on huge amounts of our internet data, often without every creator explicitly agreeing to have their work used for AI training. But when a solo developer tries to learn from the output of one of those models to build something himself, suddenly there’s a hard line? I understand OpenAI protecting its models from companies trying to extract and replicate them at scale. But this is where I’m genuinely unsure. PewDiePie isn’t some giant competing AI lab. He’s basically a solo developer experimenting with a small local model. Should the same rules really apply here? Where exactly should the line be?view source ↗

• twitter 1w negativeSalesforce charges us $18,000 a month. So I built a replacement. It started as a personal project: one day in Claude Code on the UI. The code quality was poor, so Orchestrator cleaned it up for four days. $5,600 in tokens. It's live. Guess which one we're keeping. https://t.co/ll6l9uKyl7 Salesforce charges us $18,000 a month.
