As an Indian origin founder, you don’t NEED to go to Bangalore. In fact, you’re better off never visiting it. Unsolicited, here's why:
- Bangalore is not Indian Silicon Valley. People like to claim it, but it's not.
You need to be in SF because tech moves faster here. Bangalore's traffic ensures nothing moves fast.
…As an Indian origin founder, you don’t NEED to go to Bangalore. In fact, you’re better off never visiting it. Unsolicited, here's why:
- Bangalore is not Indian Silicon Valley. People like to claim it, but it's not.
You need to be in SF because tech moves faster here. Bangalore's traffic ensures nothing moves fast.
India's biggest tech innovation, quick commerce, literally fails there.
- There are better, less homogenous tech cities in India.
Hyderabad isn't toxic & has more than just tech (movies, finance, etc.)
Talent pools are in IIT Delhi, Bombay & Madras, IIIT Hyderabad, BITS Pilani. And they'll travel anywhere.
- You don't need to visit the VCs there. Going to Bangalore to "visit" a VC is an anti-signal.
If they're really interested, they'd book an Air India business recliner to come see you.
When in doubt, just vc a VC.
I've grown @KoyalAI without ever setting foot in Bangalore & plan to keep it that way.
(I did meet a film studio client at the airport, but Bangalore airport is literally not in Bangalore lol)

There are five of us. Five people, appointed by a parliament most of the planet could not find on a map, who decide, once a year, which human being the world has agreed to call good.
I know. I know. I think about it on the tram.
We meet in a building on Henrik Ibsens gate, a street named after a man who wrote almost exclusively about people discovering they are frauds, which nobody on the committee finds funny except me. There is a room with a long table and the portraits of the dead laureates looking down, Mandela, the Dalai Lama, a great many earnest men in spectacles, and one portrait we do not discuss, which is Kissinger, 1973, awarded while the bombs were still falling, after which two of our predecessors resigned and the satirist Tom Lehrer said political satire was now obsolete. We keep him on the wall. A reminder. Every family has the uncle.
It is October in Oslo, which means the sun gives up around four in the afternoon like a civil servant, and it rains the particular Norwegian rain that isn’t quite falling, just hanging there, judging you. I arrive with wet shoes. I always arrive with wet shoes. There is coffee, because this is Norway and there is always coffee, we drink more of it per person than almost anyone alive, and someone’s wife has sent kanelboller, the cinnamon buns, and we sit, five Norwegians, damp, caffeinated, sugared, and we decide the moral standing of the entire species.
Let me tell you how it actually works, because the world imagines a cathedral and it is, I promise you, a book club with a mandate.
287 nominations this year. 208 people, 79 organizations. Anyone can nominate, that’s the secret nobody understands: a professor, a parliamentarian, a former laureate, so the “nominee” list is meaningless, it’s a suggestion box, and every autumn some congressman nominates his own golden retriever and the press writes “SHORTLISTED.” Nobody is shortlisted. There is no short list the public ev
I had a sales call with an Indian guy once.
Nice guy. Well spoken. No accent.
Said he was from a "wealthy" part of India.
I told him "this is a 4-fig investment"
"That's fine" he said.
Spent 75 minutes with him.
When I dropped price:
"Yeah I don't have that"

India is a sovereign country, not your personal business project. You run a private company, not a charity.
Just because you want to enter the Indian market doesn't mean you get to mock people and lecture India on what it should do.
And please stop selling this idea that you are coming to save poor Indians. Starlink is VERY expensive. It's not free internet that you are giving away out of kindness.
You are here to do business, just like every other company. So let's not pretend this is some social service.
Nobody is stopping you from making an offer. Make it affordable, follow Indian rules, and let the government decide. That's how it works.
Please keep attitude in check, you just sell internet. You don't own India.
Once upon a time, brands were about status. Then they became about identity.
Today, increasingly, they’re about experiences.
Pine & Gilmore saw this coming way back in 1998, in their famous HBR article, Welcome to the Experience Economy.

And this young Indian brand, Comet, has clearly got the message!
They’re not just selling sneakers. They’re letting you have a hand in creating them.
Clever. Because the experience becomes as memorable as the product.
I hope they give the established global sneaker brands in India a run for their money.
I’m ordering a pair.
Though I’d better keep a first-aid kit handy in case I knick myself with the knife! 🙂

There are very few actors who go beyond their craft & become a sensibility unto themselves.
For example, say “Brando” & you evoke not just an actor, but a whole attitude, a swagger, a way of looking at the world.

Nana Patekar belonged to that rare tribe.
I met him only a couple of times & only at large events, so I cannot claim to have known him personally. But then, you didn’t need to meet Nana to feel you KNEW him.
Because “Nana Patekar” had come to mean something. Individuality.
Authenticity.
A refusal to conform.
And a wicked sense of humour.
He became a character larger than any he played.
Indian cinema has lost a remarkable actor. But Indian folklore has lost something even rarer.
An original. A man who became his own adjective.
Om Shanti 🙏🏽

Through his powerful and deeply evocative performances, he brought to life a wide range of human experiences. He portrayed characters that left a lasting imprint on the hearts and minds of people. His commitment to social service reflected his concern for the underprivileged. His passing is a great loss to Indian cinema. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and admirers.
